Baku: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has summoned Mikhail Yevdokimov, the Russian Federation's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, to express strong protest against recent statements in Russian media that are perceived as provocative and threatening towards Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Azerbaijani officials conveyed their serious concerns during the meeting, citing specific incidents of media broadcasts in Russia that targeted the Azerbaijani state, people, and leadership. Notably, attention was drawn to a program on August 13, 2026, part of the 'Chistota Ponimaniya' project, which included statements against Azerbaijan and its leadership.
The Azerbaijani side highlighted other instances, such as a program on Sputnik radio on August 7, which included claims about the Azerbaijani leadership being on 'Russia's list of terrorists and extremists.' Additionally, the Azerbaijani leadership was targeted with provocative remarks on Spas TV channel on August 16. The Azerbaijani Ministry emphasized the unacceptability of discussions regarding interference in Azerbaijan's internal political matters and calls for violence against the Azerbaijani people and leadership.
The Ministry expressed disappointment over the continued harsh rhetoric, despite previous calls for action at various political levels. Azerbaijani officials reiterated their expectation for immediate and effective measures to be taken to cease provocations and threats in the Russian media landscape.
