Azerbaijan to Host High-Level Discussions on Green Digital and Transport Initiatives Within COP29.

BAKU: The Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan has announced a series of events to take place during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). These events aim to address critical areas such as green digital activities, urban transportation, and international aviation in the context of climate change.

According to Trend News Agency, the ministry has created a dedicated section on its website to outline the planned events. These include a high-level roundtable on ‘Green Digital Activities’, a ministerial roundtable on ‘Green Urban Transportation’, discussions on the ‘Sustainable Digital Middle Corridor’, and a panel on international aviation and climate change. A significant topic at the high-level roundtable will be the role of digital technologies in climate change action, focusing on integrating digital innovation into climate strategies and improving climate monitoring.

The ministerial roundtable on “Greening Urban T
ransport” will highlight sustainable infrastructure development and policy integration. It aims to foster collaboration among nations and stakeholders to accelerate urban transport decarbonization. The ‘Sustainable, Digital Middle Corridor’ roundtable will explore sustainable development and digitalization initiatives in global transport corridors, convening ministers and organizational leaders for strategic discussions.

A high-level panel discussion on ‘International Aviation and Climate Change’ is scheduled for the Urbanization, Transport, and Tourism Day. Co-organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, and the International Civil Aviation Organization, the event will address the urgent need for sustainable aviation fuels and other clean energy sources to achieve ICAO’s target of ‘net zero carbon emissions’ by 2050. With aviation contributing approximately 2 percent to global CO2 emissions, the discussion emphasizes the necessity for preventive
measures in light of growing air transportation demand.
