Azerbaijan to Host Monumental COP29 with Over 60 Documents Expected for Adoption

BAKU — Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Lead Negotiator for the upcoming COP29, Yalchin Rafiyev, announced that more than 60 vital documents are slated for adoption at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, during a media workshop in Baku, Trend reports.

According to Trend News Agency, Rafiyev detailed the extensive agenda for COP29, scheduled from November 11 to 22 in Baku, which will kick off with an opening ceremony followed by a summit of government representatives. The conference will include thematic days focused on sectors such as agriculture and food, providing both formal and informal discussion platforms. Rafiyev highlighted recent pre-conference discussions in Shamakhi, where delegates deliberated on crucial agenda topics, stressing the proactive and collaborative preparations underway.

One significant document, the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG), is poised for approval at the conference. Rafiyev emphasized its importance as a barometer for maintaining the efficacy of the Paris Agreement, noting that it will ensure developing nations have the necessary resources to execute their climate strategies. He underscored the high stakes and expectations set for emission reduction targets and the requisite financial, technological, and capacity support to meet these objectives.

COP29 represents a critical juncture for global climate action, with Azerbaijan becoming a focal point for international dialogue and decision-making on environmental sustainability.
