Azerbaijan to Prohibit AI-Generated Fake and Sexual Content in Media

Baku: The distribution of fake and sexual content generated using artificial intelligence will soon face prohibition within the media sector, APA reports. This development is encapsulated in the proposed new Article 14.1.13-1 of the Law 'On Media,' which was deliberated upon during a joint videoconference meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Human Rights. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft legislation outlines that the dissemination of photo, video, or audio materials, which are not reflective of reality and are created using artificial intelligence technologies or special software, will be restricted. This includes materials that feature pornographic or sexual content using a person's image or voice without their consent. In instances where the law is breached, broadcasting may be suspended temporarily for up to 24 hours, as determined by the Audiovisual Council. Additionally, the import and distribution of foreign print media containing such content in Azerbaijan may be prohibited through a court decision. Should violations occur, a court may also order the withdrawal of such foreign print media from sale. Moreover, the proposed amendments to the Law 'On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information' stipulate that owners of internet information resources and domain names, along with users of information and telecommunications networks, are required to prevent the placement of content that does not reflect reality. This includes materials created using artificial intelligence technologies or special software, featuring pornographic or sexual content using a person's image or voice without their consent.
