Baku: Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Dmytro Shlapachenko, the newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, on July 6 to discuss the ongoing and future cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations. The meeting addressed the current cooperation agenda, as well as regional and international security matters.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Minister Bayramov emphasized the strong development of the longstanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, noting that the upcoming 35th anniversary of this partnership provides an opportunity to further strengthen ties. The officials discussed Azerbaijan's contributions to global challenges, highlighting the successful hosting of significant international events such as the COP29 Conference and the 13th session of the World Urban Forum. The signing of the Framework Document on Sustainable Development Cooperation for 2026-2030 was also noted as marking a new stage of collaboration with the UN system.
The meeting covered Azerbaijan's role as a bridge between Europe and Asia, focusing on projects to expand transport and communication links, the Middle Corridor, and cooperation with Central Asian countries through the C6 format. Minister Bayramov briefed Shlapachenko on post-conflict developments, reconstruction efforts in liberated territories, and steps to facilitate the return of displaced persons.
Regarding the Azerbaijan-Armenia reconciliation process, Bayramov underscored the need to utilize existing opportunities to achieve lasting peace. Shlapachenko expressed eagerness to work in Azerbaijan and reaffirmed the UN's commitment to enhancing cooperation and advancing Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting also discussed other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
