Azerbaijan’s gas field is expected to increase production by 4 times

Azerbaijan expects an increase in annual gas production from the ‘Absheron’ gas condensate field in the Caspian Sea by 4 times – up to 6 billion cubic meters, the country’s energy minister Parviz Shahbazov said. “On August 31, we took part in the ceremony of extracting the first gas from the Absheron field. The gradual development of Absheron, considering our demand and exports, plans to increase annual production from 1.5 bcm to 6 bcm, are an important contribution to the energy security of our country and our partners,” Shahbazov wrote on his Twitter page. The Minister also said that after the ceremony he held a meeting with Patrick Pouyanne, the chief executive officer of the French company ‘TotalEnergies,’ and discussed with him the development of cooperation within the framework of the ‘Absheron’ field development project and green energy projects with a capacity of 500 MW. The ‘Absheron’ gas condensate field is located 100 km from Baku at a depth of 600 meters. In 2019, SOCAR and ‘TotalEnergies’ completed drilling of the production and appraisal well “ABD-001” with a depth of 7411 meters. According to initial estimates, the reserves of the field amount to 350 bcm of gas and 50 million tons of condensate, its development will be conducted in stages
