Bratislava: Azerbaijan's Embassy and Honorary Consulate in the Slovak Republic hosted an official reception in Bratislava to mark May 28 - Independence Day. The event brought together notable figures including Richard Rai, Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, and Peter Vodraka, Head of the Office of the President of the Slovak Republic. Also present were Rastislav Chovanec, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, members of the Slovak Parliament and Government, and representatives from various public institutions and diplomatic missions.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Slovakia, Vusal Abdullayev, highlighted the significance of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) on May 28, 1918, as the first secular, democratic republic in the Muslim East. He noted that despite its short existence, the ADR left a lasting impact on statecraft, democracy, and national identity. Abdullayev acknowledged that Azerbaijan's modern achievements are rooted in the development strategy led by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, with President Ilham Aliyev enhancing the country's international standing.
Ambassador Abdullayev also pointed to Baku hosting the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) as an indication of Azerbaijan's growing reputation as a reliable international partner. Richard Rai, as an honorary guest, expressed that Azerbaijan is considered a friendly and partner country for Slovakia. He shared optimism that the direct air flights between Bratislava and Baku will foster relations, boost tourism, and expand trade and humanitarian ties.
Richard Rasi also mentioned that Azerbaijan's rich history and culture present opportunities for Slovakia to further bolster friendship and cooperation. The event included a photo exhibition titled 'Azerbaijan: From Independence to Victory,' highlighting National Leader Heydar Aliyev's contributions and President Ilham Aliyev's state-building efforts, alongside bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia.
The reception concluded with a banquet featuring Azerbaijani products, videos on the nation's history and culture, and a selection of Azerbaijani classical music.
