Shabran: A carpet cutting ceremony was held at the Shabran branch of 'Azerkhalcha' OJSC for carpets crafted for the Shusha Mosque. The event was organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, PASHA Holding, and PMD Projects.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ceremony featured the participation of Leyla Aliyeva, who engaged with the workshop's activities. She interacted with the weavers and participated in the cutting ceremony for the carpets, which are destined for the mosque. These carpets, intended for the second floor of the Shusha Mosque, adhere to national carpet-weaving traditions and feature a special design. Each carpet measures 12 meters in width and 19 meters in length, resulting in a total length of 38 meters.
The weaving process for these two carpets, designed for the women's prayer section, commenced on January 21, 2025. Approximately 50 female weavers contributed to the creation, tying about 50 million knots. These carpets showcase the high professionalism and rich artistic heritage intrinsic to Azerbaijani carpet-weaving art.
To complete the weaving process, two newly designed looms were commissioned specifically for 'Azerkhalcha' OJSC. These looms were crafted by specialists brought in from abroad.
Earlier this month, a cutting ceremony, also attended by Leyla Aliyeva, was held for a unique circular handwoven carpet with a diameter of 22.17 meters, intended for the first floor of the Shusha Mosque. This exceptional piece, unprecedented in world carpet-weaving history, was based on motifs from the 'Garabagh' carpet group and 'Khatai' ornaments. It involved 150 female weavers and approximately 60 million knots in its creation.
