Ankara: Bahar Muradova, Chair of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs, underscored the potential to create a safer digital space for children during an event in Ankara focused on International Policy and Practice Exchange on Child Protection in the Digital Environment. She highlighted the dual nature of digital technologies, which, while offering new opportunities, also present significant risks such as cyberbullying, data misuse, harmful content, and online exploitation.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Muradova emphasized the limitations of legal frameworks alone in addressing these challenges, stressing the importance of their effective implementation. She called for a strong regulatory and protective role by the state, urging collaboration among government bodies, schools, tech companies, and civil society to ensure online safety for children.
Muradova pointed to Azerbaijan's proactive measures, including the Law on the Protection of Children from Harmful Information, which centers on shielding children from content detrimental to their development. She highlighted the necessity for robust monitoring and evaluation of policies, regular impact assessments, and the swift addressing of policy gaps. She also stressed the importance of international cooperation, given the borderless nature of the digital world, and mentioned Azerbaijan's 2026-2028 digital development action plan and Child Rights Law as steps towards a comprehensive approach in this domain.
In her concluding remarks, Bahar Muradova reiterated that achieving a safer digital environment for children requires the integration of strong legislation, effective enforcement, awareness campaigns, and international collaboration.
