Baku Hosts Key International Climate Conference During Climate Action Week

BAKU — The international conference as part of "Climate Action Week" dedicated to the upcoming COP29 is currently underway in Baku, with discussions focused on advancing a green economy to address challenges in skills, finance, and equitable transitions.

According to Trend News Agency, the event featured prominent speakers including Nigar Arpadarai, UN High-Level Climate Chief at COP29; Sahil Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection; Stefanie Stallmeister, World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan; Yusif Abdullayev, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO); Maxim Zubov, Vice President of Siemens Energy; and Abbas Ibrahimov, Chairman of the Board of the International Bank of Azerbaijan. "This event will be a significant stepping stone in steering the climate agenda as we gear up for COP29, set to take place in Baku this November," noted a conference organizer.

The conference on its third day tackled the theme 'Green Economy: Meeting the Skills, Finance, and Just Transition Challenge,' drawing in diverse participants from politics, finance, trade, investment, science, art, culture, civil society, and media. The first half of the week, from September 30 through October 2, was dedicated to discussions on climate solutions involving government agencies, academia, and the private sector. The remainder of the week, October 3-4, will focus on contributions from science, education, arts, and culture sectors.

Throughout the nation's capital, various activities are scheduled to mark Climate Action Week, promoting broad engagement across multiple sectors.
