Baku Port: ‘Gadamly’ Vessel to Increase Container Transportation on Baku-Turkmenbashi Route

Baku: The commissioning of the first dry cargo vessel 'Gadamly,' built in Turkmenistan and launched at the Baku International Sea Trade Port of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), will contribute to a significant increase in cargo turnover, including container transportation, between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku, said Director of the Baku Port Eldar Salahov, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the vessel, with a cargo capacity of 6,100 tons, is capable of transporting 240 twenty-foot containers. The port director added that, within the next 3-4 months, and no later than the end of the year, another new vessel with the same technical capabilities is expected to be commissioned. That vessel will be named 'Menzil.'

Eldar Salahov emphasized that by the end of the year, it is planned to jointly use two cargo vessels built at Turkmenistan's Balkan Shipyard for container transportation - the 'Gadamly' vessel welcomed today and the 'Menzil' dry cargo vessel, which will be ready by the end of the year. The vessel will be engaged in regular container transportation between the ports of Baku and Turkmenbashi.

The commissioning of the new vessel is of great importance in terms of developing the Eurasian Transport Route, considered the southern branch of the Middle Corridor, and increasing container transportation.
