BAKU - The II Baku Security Forum, organized by the Azerbaijani State Security Service, has gathered intelligence officers from approximately 50 countries to discuss the modern security challenges facing global transport networks. The forum, which builds on the inaugural event held in May 2023, serves as a critical platform for international cooperation in the field of security.
According to Trend News Agency, this year's forum was particularly noteworthy due to a video address from President Ilham Aliyev and its timing ahead of the COP29 climate conference, emphasizing the strategic importance of the discussions. The head of Azerbaijan's State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev, opened the forum, highlighting the essential role of coordinated international efforts in combating threats like international terrorism, particularly those targeting transport corridors essential for energy resources.
Naghiyev underscored the potential global economic and environmental consequences of terrorist activities disrupting such transport lines. He emphasized that the forum is instrumental in fostering dialogue and enhancing cooperative strategies among intelligence services worldwide. The forum also aims to improve the security infrastructure of global transport networks, which are increasingly vulnerable to various threats.
In his remarks, Naghiyev expressed confidence that the forum would lead to more robust joint strategies to address security risks and would aid in the development of collective approaches to safeguarding these critical infrastructures. The discussions included contributions from foreign intelligence leaders, further solidifying the forum's role as a vital international assembly for addressing shared security concerns.
The forum concluded with strong support for President Aliyev’s initiative to establish a permanent Secretariat of the Baku Security Forum in Baku, which will enhance ongoing cooperation and information exchange among the participating countries.
