Sofia: In January 2026, Bulgaria's exports of goods to non-EU countries decreased by 9% compared with the same month of 2025, reaching EUR 1,012.6 million.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the data was reported by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), citing the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
Bulgaria's primary trading partners outside the EU included Turkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, Serbia, North Macedonia, Ukraine, and Algeria, which together constituted 47.4% of the country's exports to non-EU regions. The most significant increase in exports was noticed in the "Animal and vegetable fats, oils and waxes" sector, with a rise of 175%, whereas the "Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials" sector saw a steep decline of 72.4%.
Imports of goods into Bulgaria from non-EU countries in January 2026 rose by 5.3% compared to January 2025, reaching EUR 2,044.5 million. Turkiye, China, Brazil, and Ukraine contributed the largest value of imported goods. The "Machinery and transport equipment" sector witnessed the most substantial increase in imports at 57.7%, while the "Animal and vegetable fats, oils and waxes" sector experienced a decrease of 46.5%.
Bulgaria's trade balance with non-EU countries in January 2026 was negative, amounting to EUR 1,031.9 million. Overall, in January 2026, Bulgaria exported goods worth EUR 3,327 million, marking a 1.4% decline from January 2025. The total value of goods imported into the country stood at EUR 4,373 million, slightly up by 0.1% compared to the previous year. The overall trade balance was negative, amounting to EUR 1,046 million.
