Moscow: The 110th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in Moscow, where Azerbaijan was represented by First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov. In contrast, Armenia chose not to send a high-level representative, instead delegating its Ambassador to Belarus, Razmik Khumaryan, to attend the meeting.
According to Azeri-Press Nws Aency, the meeting, conducted in a limited format, provided a platform for the heads of delegations to discuss pressing issues related to economic cooperation within the CIS. Participants reviewed several documents, including a draft decision from the CIS Council of Heads of State regarding national population censuses scheduled for 2030. The document emphasized conducting the censuses as near to 2030 as feasible and preparing a unified list of socio-economic and migration indicators to ensure result comparability.
Further discussions included a report on the activities of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications and the Coordination Council for Informatization covering the period from 2021 to 2025. The Economic Council also endorsed the Main Action Plan for implementing the Conceptual Framework for Cooperation on Labor Standards among CIS member states for 2026-2030 and examined a report on civil protection for victims of competition violations.
Attention was also given to macroeconomic development indicators of the CIS countries for 2025. Preliminary estimates indicated a 2.1% increase in the gross domestic product of CIS member states. Additionally, the unemployment rate saw a significant decline of 9% from the previous year, bringing it down to 3.6 million people, or 3.1% of the labor force.
The council decided to convene the next CIS Economic Council meeting in Ashgabat on September 11, 2026.
