Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Engages in High-Level Sustainable Development Discussions in New York

Baku: From July 13 to 17, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev visited New York to participate in the ministerial segment of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry informed APA. Rzayev's address at the forum reaffirmed Azerbaijan's dedication to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and highlighted the country's progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fariz Rzayev emphasized the significance of maintaining focus on practical implementation, national priorities, and tangible results during his speech at the informal ministerial meeting of the UN General Assembly on the 'Stocktaking on the Pact for the Future.' His remarks underscored the importance of ensuring that the Pact for the Future aligns with these principles. At an event organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Rzayev underscored the Commission's role and the UN Sp ecial Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in advancing sustainable development and fostering economic cooperation in the region. He highlighted the contributions of these organizations in promoting regional development and collaboration. Additionally, at an event titled 'National Sustainable Development Goals: Unexploded Ordnance/Mine Action and Accelerating the 2030 Agenda through International Legal Mechanisms,' Rzayev noted that humanitarian demining has been declared Azerbaijan's 18th National Sustainable Development Goal. He addressed the ongoing threats posed by landmines in liberated territories, particularly their impact on reconstruction efforts and the return of internally displaced persons.
