Baku: Fatma Yildirim, Deputy Chair of the Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology Committee of the Milli Majlis, emphasized that sustainability should be integral not only to state policy but also to the daily behavior and culture of society. This statement was made during the event titled 'Development of Azerbaijan's First National Sustainability Standards' organized as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Yildirim asserted that Azerbaijan's active role in the global development agenda and its backing of sustainable development initiatives underline the country's position as a responsible partner. She stressed the importance of aligning international sustainability principles with Azerbaijan's national values and implementing practical measures to address these challenges.
Yildirim highlighted that the ESPS standards presented at the event include measures across various sectors, from tourism and services to public spaces and resource management. She underscored the significance of environmentally sensitive attitudes, efficient resource use, social inclusivity, and accountability as the foundations of a resilient society.
Furthermore, Yildirim pointed out the necessity of expanding legislative initiatives and reinforcing measures related to energy efficiency, resource management, and addressing environmental threats. She noted that sustainable development and 'green energy' principles are being actively implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
