Shusha: The next feature in AZERTAC's 'If I Were a Tourist' column highlights the Shusha branch of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, a symbol of cultural heritage in the region. The museum offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Garabagh through its extensive collection of carpets and artifacts.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Shusha branch is housed in a building constructed in the second half of the 19th century, located in the Yukhari Quarter of Shusha. The building underwent restoration after the liberation of Shusha, following a period of disuse during the occupation. This renovation has allowed the museum to reopen, showcasing an impressive array of artifacts.
The museum's collection includes carpets and artifacts dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries. In addition to pile and pile-free carpets, the museum features carpet products, archaeological materials, national embroidery, costume sets, jewelry, and artistic metalwork. Recent years have seen the addition of valuable carpets to enhance the museum's collection.
A touchscreen in the exhibition hall provides visitors with detailed information about the displays, offering insights into Garabagh's tangible and intangible heritage. This includes details about Shusha, its noble families, Garabagh carpets in foreign collections, and the activities of the Shusha branch from 1992 to 2022.
Visitors leave the Shusha branch of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Garabagh's cultural heritage, enriched by the historical and artistic narratives presented through the museum's exhibits.
