GUADELOUPE: In a recent press conference, a representative from Guadeloupe criticized the French authorities for their alleged racist attitudes towards colonial peoples, claiming that they view themselves as a superior race. The remarks were made during the presentation of a report detailing human rights violations in French overseas territories.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, M. Florent, Deputy Secretary General of the Guadeloupe Island UPLG, stated that those from Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Kanaky who opposed French colonial policies were often depicted as criminals. He emphasized that this portrayal reflects a broader racist attitude from the French authorities towards colonial populations. Florent condemned the French government and its policies, calling for international intervention to ensure France adheres to the same human rights standards it advocates for globally.
Florent further articulated that their fight centers on achieving national independence and full sovereignty, asserting that th
is struggle would only conclude with the termination of French colonial rule. He urged the international community to recognize Guadeloupe as a country requiring decolonization and to support its efforts to abolish colonial oppression, which he described as a critical advancement in their pursuit of autonomy.
