GUBADLI: Four years have passed since the Azerbaijani Army liberated the city of Gubadli from Armenian occupation, a significant milestone in the Second Garabagh War. The city was freed on October 25, 2020, following a counter-offensive that began in September of the same year.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Azerbaijani military’s strategic victories in the Jabrayil and Zangilan districts enabled them to advance into Gubadli. On October 26, President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Gubadli and several villages in the Gubadli, Zangilan, and Jabrayil districts. The operation dealt a severe blow to enemy forces, resulting in the destruction of significant Armenian military assets.
The liberation of Gubadli was marked by intense battles, which resulted in a decisive Azerbaijani victory. The operation not only broke the resistance of Armenian forces but also led to their retreat. In recognition of the bravery displayed during these operations, the Republic of Azerbaijan established the “For t
he Liberation of Gubadli” medal. President Aliyev awarded this honor to military personnel who demonstrated exceptional courage.
Furthermore, October 25 has been designated as Gubadli City Day by an order from President Aliyev. The commemoration serves as a reminder of the district’s occupation on August 31, 1993, and the subsequent destruction inflicted upon its infrastructure and cultural heritage by Armenian forces. Acts of vandalism during the occupation included damage to religious and historical sites, as well as environmental degradation through deforestation and burning.
The liberation of Gubadli is remembered as a pivotal moment in Azerbaijan’s recent history and a testament to the resilience of its armed forces and people.
