Hikmat Hajiyev Highlights Peace Efforts at ‘Peace Bridge’ Meeting in Gabala

Gabala: Hikmat Hajiyev shared a post on the X platform about his meeting with participants of the 'Peace Bridge' initiative, APA reports. The meeting took place in Gabala, Azerbaijan, and involved an open dialogue with civil society representatives from Armenia. The discussions lasted for more than two hours and centered on confidence-building measures, particularly Track 2 diplomacy, which are inherently bilateral in nature.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Hajiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan's agenda is solely focused on peace and reaffirmed the country's commitment to the Washington agenda. He noted that this commitment extends beyond mere declarations or paperwork and involves concrete steps to strengthen the peace agenda. These steps include bilateral trade, transit shipments to Armenia via Azerbaijan, and enhanced people-to-people contacts, all aiming to demonstrate the economic benefits of peace.

The implementation of the TRIPP project was highlighted as a promising opportunity for Armenia as a transit country. Hajiyev remarked on the significance of establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, particularly in light of global developments that some describe as resembling a Third World War and the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

During the meeting, concerns were raised about the presence of revanchist forces within Armenia's domestic political landscape, whose calls for war pose a risk of dragging the region back into the turbulence experienced in the late 1980s and early 1990s. However, Hajiyev expressed hope, noting that the aspirations of Armenian society for peace could counteract the efforts of those attempting to undermine the peace agenda.
