Import Control Mechanism to Be Introduced for Non-Food Consumer Goods in Azerbaijan

Baku: An import control mechanism will be introduced for non-food consumer goods, APA reports. This development is part of an amendment proposed to the Customs Code, which was discussed during the recent session of the Milli Majlis.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the proposed draft law aims to ensure that non-food consumer goods imported into Azerbaijan are accompanied by appropriate certification. These certifications include a certificate of conformity, a declaration of conformity, or recognized foreign conformity documents that confirm compliance with safety-related technical regulations.

The draft law specifies that the import regime for non-food consumer goods in Azerbaijan should align with the regime for similar domestic or foreign goods. This alignment is intended to foster a competitive environment, support local production, and prevent the influx of goods that do not meet technical regulations. These regulations are designed to protect human life and health, the environment, property, and state interests.

In consideration of the state's policy priorities on entrepreneurship and business support, the draft law includes a 24-month transition period. This period is designated for business entities involved in the importation of non-food consumer goods to adjust to the new legislative requirements.

The draft law was put to a vote and successfully adopted in the first reading.
