Tehran: A new round of negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement between Iran and the United States will begin on Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi announced at a meeting attended by ambassadors, charg©s d'affaires, and heads of foreign and international missions accredited in Tehran.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Aragchi provided information on recent foreign policy developments, including details of the Islamabad Memorandum on ending the war between Iran and the United States. The foreign minister stated that the negotiations will aim to reach a final agreement, following the completion of the first phase after three months of discussions.
Aragchi highlighted that the most significant outcome of the first phase was the announcement of the end of the war. "Based on the decision we adopted, the end of the war was announced on Monday morning, Tehran time, after the agreement was finalized. However, the memorandum will officially enter into force starting from Friday," he said.
He further mentioned that the end of the war will include Lebanon, emphasizing that Tehran views the United States and Israel on one side and Iran and Hezbollah on the other as the parties to the memorandum. Aragchi stressed that ending the war in Lebanon is an integral part of ending the broader conflict.
"The end of the war also includes the end of the occupation, and the war cannot be considered fully over until Israeli forces withdraw from the territories they occupy," Aragchi stated. He added that any military operation carried out by Israel against Lebanon from now on, as well as the continued occupation of Lebanese territory, will be regarded by Tehran as a violation of the memorandum.
