Shusha: An Irish parliamentary delegation led by Tony McCormack, the Convenor of the Friends of Azerbaijan Group in the Houses of the Oireachtas, visited Azerbaijan and toured the cities of Shusha and Khankendi on April 23. This visit underscores the growing diplomatic and cultural ties between Ireland and Azerbaijan.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the delegation began their tour in Shusha at the City Square. They were informed about the damage inflicted during the occupation period, notably the shooting of statues of prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli. Following this, the delegation visited significant sites including the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque, the Shusha Fortress walls, and the Jidir Duzu Plain.
In Khankendi, the delegation observed Victory Square and Garabagh University, as well as various large-scale construction projects initiated by the Azerbaijani government. It was highlighted that the liberated territories are witnessing a return to normalcy, with former internally displaced persons gradually making their way back as reconstruction efforts advance.
