Baku: Integration is a critical catalyst for development and prosperity, as highlighted by Mohammed Al-Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank Group, during an engaging session titled 'An Open Conversation with the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group' at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Annual Meetings in Baku. Al-Jasser stressed the importance of providing hope to people, which he views as essential for economic development.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Al-Jasser pointed out that restoring hope is vital for economic advancement. He emphasized, "If it is not possible to create hope among people, nothing else will help." He highlighted the bank's projects, such as the construction of a road in Gambia, which reduced travel time between two cities from 12 hours to four. This project exemplifies integration by enhancing the movement of goods, services, and people.
Al-Jasser also discussed the significance of integration in addressing food distribution issues. He noted that integration is a core principle of the bank's work, citing the example of a metro project in Dakar, Senegal, which significantly improved urban mobility. The metro served over 100 million passengers in its first year, prompting further expansion plans. He emphasized that improving mobility is a crucial driver of economic growth.
Furthermore, Al-Jasser mentioned the impact of health projects, such as hospitals in densely populated areas that have increased life expectancy. He described efforts to combat preventable blindness in Africa, where volunteer ophthalmologists from member countries conduct surgeries to restore vision, allowing individuals to lead productive lives.
