Kyrgyzstan Seeks Enhanced Environmental Collaboration with Azerbaijan, States Minister Meder Mashiev.


Baku: Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, has expressed interest in deepening environmental cooperation with Azerbaijan. In an exclusive interview with APA, Minister Mashiev highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan’s role in the successful organization of COP29, noting the establishment of a Kyrgyz pavilion at the event as a testament to the strong partnership between the two nations. He extended gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for facilitating a high-level conference.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Mashiev emphasized the significance of reaching a consensus on climate finance during the conference. Discussions involving developed nations are ongoing, with a focus on addressing additional financing concerns. Mashiev expressed optimism that these discussions would culminate in a successful agreement at COP29.

The minister underscored the multifaceted cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan in environmental protection and
ecology. Recent agreements, including one signed with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, illustrate the commitment to advancing joint initiatives in this critical area. Minister Mashiev reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s eagerness to further develop this collaboration.

As a representative of a mountainous nation, Minister Mashiev shared Kyrgyzstan’s expectations from COP29, particularly regarding initiatives related to mountain issues. With a resolution formed and a plenary session scheduled for the conference’s final day, technical consultations concerning mountain regions are anticipated to take place, reflecting Kyrgyzstan’s strategic priorities in environmental policy.
