Omer Bulut Highlights Housing Policy as Central to Social Justice and Sustainable Development

Baku: Housing policy is at the center of social justice and sustainable development, Turkish Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Omer Bulut stated at a panel discussion. The discussion, titled 'Housing for Social Inclusion and Poverty Eradication,' was part of the WUF13 event, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Bulut expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani government and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for their support. He highlighted the challenges posed by Trkiye's rapid urbanization, which affects social integration, housing provision, and urban planning. Bulut noted that while state policies over the last two decades have somewhat alleviated the housing issue, there is still much work to be done.

Bulut emphasized that housing extends beyond urban planning, serving as a cornerstone for state policy rooted in social justice, development, human dignity, and human rights. He revealed that the private sector is responsible for 85% of housing construction in Trkiye, with the state contributing to the remaining 15%. Over 1.75 million social housing units have been developed in the past 20 years, benefiting more than 7 million citizens.

Bulut further remarked that social housing projects aim to create environments that align with community culture and nature, enhancing social integration. He concluded by outlining Trkiye's future objectives to develop cities that are sustainable, climate-resilient, and inclusive.
