President Aliyev Announces Imminent Peace Agreement Pending Constitutional Amendments in Armenia

Munich: A formal peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia is on the horizon, contingent upon Armenia's removal of territorial claims against Azerbaijan from its Constitution, according to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Speaking at a panel discussion titled 'Open corridor policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian cooperation' during the Munich Security Conference, Aliyev emphasized the significance of this constitutional amendment for the peace process.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev stated that the signing of the peace agreement will follow immediately once Armenia makes the necessary constitutional changes. He highlighted the role of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity in establishing new connectivity lines that would benefit all countries involved. The transport corridor, extending from China through Central Asia, the Trans-Caspian region, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Azerbaijan's exclave Nakhchivan, Turkey, and into Europe, is anticipated to foster closer political and economic integration among the states along the route.

President Aliyev underscored the importance of the peace agreement and the subsequent steps needed to ensure long-term and sustainable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He noted the rapid progress made since the last bloody clash between the two nations less than two years ago and the Washington Summit, highlighting the strong political will demonstrated by both sides to end the long-standing conflict.

The President expressed optimism about the future, describing the recent six months of peace as a special and pleasant feeling shared by the populations of both Azerbaijan and Armenia. He believes that connectivity projects and transport corridors will enhance mutual interdependence and create a new situation in the South Caucasus, paving the way for trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia.
