President Highlights Azerbaijan’s Urban Development at World Urban Forum in Baku

Baku: Guests visiting our country for the first time will become more familiar with Azerbaijan's urban development efforts, President Ilham Aliyev stated during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku. This event, as reported by APA, marks the second largest international gathering organized in Azerbaijan following COP29, which occurred a year and a half ago.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized the harmonious blend of antiquity and modernity present in Baku. He noted the city's ability to preserve historical heritage while meeting the demands of urban planning and modernization. This dynamic, he stated, is a testament to the talent of Azerbaijan's ancestors and the country's commitment to preserving its historical and architectural heritage.

President Aliyev expressed hope that many first-time visitors to Azerbaijan would take the opportunity to explore and appreciate the country's capital and its ongoing urban development initiatives. He highlighted Azerbaijan's unique position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, serving historically and currently as a meeting point of East and West. This cultural and geographical convergence is evident in the country's architectural landscape.

The President specifically mentioned Baku's ancient Icherisheher, with its narrow streets that lead directly to the modern expanse of the Baku Boulevard. This area, once smaller, now extends over 15 kilometers along the seaside, showcasing a juxtaposition of past and present. The boulevard is flanked by 19th-century buildings constructed by European architects, further illustrating the city's architectural diversity.
