Baku: Armenia, for the first time in its independent history, will also be a transit country, President Ilham Aliyev stated during the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the collaborative efforts following peace with Armenia to develop a new extension of the Middle Corridor. This corridor will traverse Armenia, marking a significant shift as Armenia assumes the role of a transit country. Aliyev emphasized that this development would facilitate a sustainable transportation link between the mainland of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
The initiative is expected to integrate various infrastructural elements, including energy, fiber optic links, electric cables, and potentially pipelines. President Aliyev described this as a win-win situation for all parties involved, underscoring the potential benefits for multiple countries that choose to utilize this opportunity. The establishment of this transportation infrastructure aims to connect different regions of Azerbaijan and extend new corridors, enhancing regional connectivity.
