President Ilham Aliyev Receives Credentials from New UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan

Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Duncan Norman, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan. The ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Duncan Norman began his remarks in Azerbaijani, expressing his long-standing connection to the country since his first visit 27 years ago. He noted the substantial development Azerbaijan has undergone and expressed his honor in opening a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.

The ambassador highlighted ongoing work on a new strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan, aiming to advance achievements through deeper cooperation, enhanced security, and innovation. He also expressed the UK's interest in building a dynamic partnership in renewable energy, defense, and aviation, while emphasizing educational ties and connections among young people.

Duncan Norman conveyed the UK Government's appreciation for President Ilham Aliyev's efforts to establish peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, pledging continued support for this progress. He recalled the UK's position as the first international partner to support Azerbaijan's demining efforts.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his appreciation for the ambassador's efforts to speak Azerbaijani and wished him a pleasant stay in Baku. He noted the importance of the issues on the agenda not only from a bilateral perspective but also for regional development and cooperation.

The president thanked the UK Government for its assistance in demining and emphasized the need for closer international cooperation in this area. He recalled the inception of Azerbaijan-UK cooperation in the energy sector 30 years ago and highlighted the potential for partnership in renewable energy, referencing the construction of the first solar power plant in Azerbaijan's liberated territories by bp.

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the significance of achieving peace after 35 years of independence, with only one year lived in peace, marking a major shift for the region. He reiterated that security remains a priority on the country's agenda, considering the regional situation.

Highlighting the positive investment climate in Azerbaijan, the president noted the strong mutual interest of Azerbaijani and British companies. He concluded by wishing the ambassador success in his new role.
