Baku: The Press Council has issued a strong condemnation of threatening and insulting statements against Azerbaijan in the Russian media. 'Some Russian media outlets are publishing inappropriate, threatening and insulting materials and opinions against the Azerbaijani state, people, the country's leadership and our prominent figures. We believe that this is completely contrary to the principles of civilized journalism, ethical norms and human values. Unfortunately, such cases are being consistently observed in Russia's information space," the Press Council said in a statement, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Press Council considers such cases to be completely contrary to the spirit of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as media relations. The Council emphasized that Azerbaijani media has consistently maintained a respectful approach towards neighboring countries, including Russia, and has refrained from publishing opinions and claims that deviate from professional principles.
The Press Council expressed deep regret and dissatisfaction within the Azerbaijani public over these incidents in Russia's information space. It called on the Russian media community and society to take serious measures against actions that could harm Azerbaijan-Russia media relations and the overall friendly relations between the two nations.
Additionally, the Council reiterated that insulting remarks and threatening claims against Azerbaijan and its prominent figures are unacceptable. The systematic publication of such materials, despite Russia's strict legislative regulation of its information space, suggests an endorsement at the state policy level. The Press Council reminded those responsible for such statements that they bear legal responsibility for their actions.
