Production of Azerbaijan’s ‘Istisu’ Mineral Water Restarts in Kalbajar After Three Decades

KALBAJAR — The renowned “Istisu” mineral water production has resumed in Kalbajar, Azerbaijan, marking a significant revival after 30 years of cessation due to Armenian occupation.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ‘Istisu’ mineral water, sourced from thermal deposits located over 1600 meters above sea level in the mountainous Kalbajar region, is known for its high mineral content and natural emergence at temperatures above 60°C. Originally launched in 1976, the production was interrupted by the geopolitical conflict that led to Armenian control over the area. With the recent liberation of Kalbajar, efforts to restart production were initiated, culminating in the completion of a new facility.

The inauguration of the modernized ‘Istisu’ mineral water plant took place on September 2, with President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attending the ceremony. This development is seen as a crucial step towards revitalizing the region’s economy and preserving its natural heritage.
