Trkiye: SOCAR's STAR oil refinery in Trkiye has initiated a reduction in its reliance on Russian crude oil, a change that began last year.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this move is part of a broader strategy to diversify supply sources amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics. The refinery, which previously relied heavily on Russian crude, has started sourcing oil from other countries.
The STAR refinery, owned by SOCAR, has historically used about 98% Russian-produced crude oil, with a significant portion, 73%, supplied by Lukoil, a company currently facing U.S. sanctions. The shift in purchase strategy is notable, as the refinery is actively seeking alternative suppliers to decrease its dependence on Russian imports. Recent transactions include acquiring four cargoes of crude oil from Kazakhstan, Iraq, and other producers, indicating a strategic reorientation in sourcing.
This adjustment contrasts with previous operational years, where Russian crude dominated the refinery's supply chain. The transition marks a significant alteration in procurement practices, driven by the need to adapt to geopolitical shifts and ensure a more stable and diversified supply.
