Syria Seeks to Leverage Azerbaijan’s Reconstruction Expertise in Liberated Territories

Baku: Syria is keen to benefit from Azerbaijan's extensive experience in reconstruction and urban development, as revealed in an interview with Mustafa Abdul Razzaq, the Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing, conducted by APA News Agency during the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan's accomplishments in rebuilding its liberated territories have drawn significant interest from Syria, which is in the midst of recovering from years of conflict.

The Syrian minister highlighted the positive trajectory in the bilateral relations between Syria and Azerbaijan, noting improvements in both political and humanitarian spheres. He emphasized the potential for practical collaboration in housing construction, urban planning, infrastructure, and energy sectors. Training programs and the exchange of technical expertise are also viewed as crucial components of this cooperation.

Syria is currently focused on restoring multiple sectors that have suffered damage over recent years. The country's interest in collaboration with Azerbaijan extends to infrastructure restoration, urban planning, energy services, and economic development. The minister expressed particular interest in Azerbaijan's approach to integrating reconstruction projects with long-term development plans and utilizing modern technologies.

The educational infrastructure in Syria is also set to benefit from Azerbaijan's support. A strategic partnership with Azerbaijan's Ministry of Science and Education, alongside ICESCO, aims to restore and construct numerous schools in Syria by 2030. Ongoing technical coordination seeks to finalize project details and implementation mechanisms.

In the energy sector, Azerbaijan has facilitated gas exports to Syria, in cooperation with Qatar, showcasing regional support and collaboration. This aid is viewed as vital for Syria's economic recovery and improvement of living conditions.

Azerbaijan's role as the host of WUF13 underscores its growing influence in international urban development cooperation. The forum serves as a critical platform for discussing urban expansion, reconstruction, and sustainable development, enabling countries like Syria to learn from successful international models.
