U.S. Expert Highlights Strategic Partnership Charter’s Impact on U.S. Investments in Azerbaijan

Baku: ‘The signing of the Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America, during Vice President JD Vance’s high-level visit to the Caucasus region, is very important,’ Paolo von Schirah, President of the Global Policy Institute and Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Bay Atlantic University in Washington, D.C., told AZERTAC.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, this agreement encompasses cooperation across various sectors including energy, defense, geopolitical issues, counterterrorism, and communications. It also includes potential American investments in high technology, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence.

This agreement addresses an existing imbalance, as the U.S. already has a similar agreement with Armenia. This new charter aims to balance that relationship by supporting the construction of the Zangezur road and rail corridor, which will connect Azerbaijan proper with Nakhchivan. This development is significant not only for Azerbaijan but also for Armenia, as it will be under the auspices of the U.S. President, providing security reassurance.

The corridor is part of a larger vision, the Middle Corridor, which is expected to link the eastern Mediterranean, Trkiye, Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan. It holds potential for enhancing trade, business, and investments across Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
