UAE to Transform 50% of Government Services to AI Within Two Years

Dubai: The UAE will transform half of its government sectors, services, and operations to autonomous artificial intelligence systems within two years, under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the major government shift was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Writing on his official X account, Sheikh Mohammed stated that the UAE plans to shift 50 per cent of government services to autonomous AI within the specified timeframe.

Sheikh Mohammed described this initiative as a new government system, with the plan aiming to position the UAE as the first country globally to adopt 'agentic AI' models. These models are capable of independently executing tasks, managing processes, and supporting decision-making. The advanced AI systems are designed to monitor changes, provide analysis, issue recommendations, and execute actions without human intervention, thereby enhancing efficiency, improving services, and enabling real-time evaluation and optimization.

Ministers, directors-general, and federal entities will be assessed over the next two years based on their ability to adapt to this transformation, including the speed at which they implement new standards and adopt AI tools to reshape government operations. All federal government employees are set to undergo specialized training to develop expertise in artificial intelligence, preparing the workforce to lead one of the largest government transformation projects.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, will oversee the implementation of the initiative. A task force led by Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of UAE Cabinet Affairs, has been formed to ensure execution. The project aims to transform 50% of government sectors, services, and operations to implement autonomous Agentic AI models within two years by redesigning government policies, processes, and procedures based on AI capabilities.

The initiative includes a phased implementation across ministries and federal entities, with continuous performance and impact assessments. This approach paves the way for a wider rollout, ensuring optimal results across the federal government. Special focus is placed on developing national capabilities by training and empowering government employees to master generative artificial intelligence technologies and their applications.
