Baku: 'Energy has been at the heart of our relationship with Azerbaijan for thirty years, since BP entered the market - we are proud of this legacy. We are working closely to support the energy transition so that the United Kingdom can invest in the clean energy sector and harness Azerbaijan's renewable energy potential,' UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman said at a press conference today, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, beyond energy, British companies are also active in a number of other sectors. Ambassador Duncan Norman highlighted Azerbaijan's strategic position, stating, 'We see Azerbaijan as a natural hub in this region for transport, infrastructure, finance and data.' His remarks underscore the importance of Azerbaijan as a focal point for various economic activities in the region.
Duncan Norman also emphasized the role of education as a cornerstone of the relationship between the UK and Azerbaijan. 'This year, the United Kingdom continued to be the most preferred country for Azerbaijani young people studying abroad under the state program: 61% of students chose to study at British universities, benefiting from our world-class education,' he noted. The UK government-funded Chevening Programme further strengthens these ties, with applications currently open to encourage talented Azerbaijani citizens to apply.
Ambassador Norman expressed optimism about further developing cooperation through new education and science partnerships, investments in artificial intelligence and digital transformation, and creating future skills and jobs in both countries. He underscored the importance of equality and inclusion for sustainable growth, highlighting ongoing efforts to support the economic empowerment of women in collaboration with the Azerbaijani government and local partners.
