Abu dhabi: Housing policy should not be limited only to handing over house keys to families, UN-Habitat Regional Goodwill Ambassador for the Arab States, Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, said during an event organized on the third day of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the primary objective is to ensure the full integration of people into economic and social life. The event highlighted that urbanization is expected to accelerate further in the coming years, which will place an additional financial burden on governments. By 2030, it is anticipated that 60 percent of the world's population will live in cities, prompting questions on whether governments alone can meet all the growing needs. This scenario necessitates a global budget of an entirely different scale.
Princess Lamia underscored the importance of creating opportunities for individuals to earn their own income and participate in the housing market, either through renting or owning homes. This approach, she noted, embodies dignity and stability. The speaker also advocated for a trilateral cooperation model, which she described as crucial for the successful implementation of housing projects. She explained that the foundation she leads employs a 'triple formula' consisting of governments for policy formation and project sustainability, international organizations for technical frameworks, and charitable institutions for innovation, vision, and financial backing.
The ambassador emphasized that housing projects should focus not just on constructing physical dwellings, but on building a comprehensive social system. Housing policy, she argued, requires a strategic approach that considers social sustainability, human dignity, and inclusive development.
