UPLG Condemns France Over Arrest of Secretary General in Baku Statement

BAKU: The People’s Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe (UPLG) has issued a statement from Baku denouncing France following the arrest of its Secretary General, Jean-Jacob Bicepe, at Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport. The incident occurred after Bicepe’s return from a United Nations event in Geneva, where discussions were centered on human rights violations in French-controlled territories.

According to Trend News Agency, the UPLG expressed strong dissatisfaction with the arrest, citing it as a violation of human rights. The organization highlighted a previous incident in which Bicepe was barred from entering the United States after crossing Martinique, preventing him from visiting the UN headquarters. The UPLG’s statement emphasized its dedication to raising awareness within the international community about the situation in Guadeloupe, calling for the recognition of the right to self-determination and national independence.

The UPLG drew parallels between their struggle and historical figures who fought
against slavery, such as Delgres, Palermo, Massoto, Koudoux, Marth-Ros, and Solitude. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the fight until achieving full freedom. The statement also urged the people of Guadeloupe and other anti-colonial forces to condemn actions that suppress voices advocating for sovereignty and independence, concluding with a rallying cry for a free and independent Guadeloupe.
