100th Anniversary of First Turkology Congress Celebrated in Tbilisi

Tbilisi: An event titled '100 Years of the First Turkology Congress: From History to the Future' was recently held in Tbilisi to commemorate the centenary of the First Turkology Congress, originally convened in Baku in 1926. The event took place at the Mirza Fatali Akhundov Azerbaijani Culture Museum and was initiated by the Nariman Narimanov Memorial Museum in Azerbaijan, with organization by Maarif in Georgia.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event was attended by scholars and researchers from Baku, alongside intellectuals and representatives of the Azerbaijani community in Georgia. Discussions focused on the pivotal role of the 1926 First Turkology Congress in shaping the scientific, linguistic, and cultural history of Turkic peoples. The congress's impact on language, literature, history, ethnography, culture, and alphabet issues was also highlighted, emphasizing its contribution to the development of Turkology.

The event further explored the scholarly legacy of the congress participants and the evolution of Turkological thought over the past century. Speakers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Trkiye underscored the congress's enduring significance in the scientific and cultural life of the Turkic world. They also highlighted the ongoing relevance of its key principles, including the preservation of the mother tongue and cultural heritage, the promotion of scientific and cultural cooperation, and the strengthening of ties among Turkic peoples.
