AIIB Urges Financial Support for Climate Change Victims.

New York: Jin Liqun, President and Chairman of the Board of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), emphasized the necessity of providing financial assistance to those adversely affected by climate change during his speech at the Finance, Investment and Trade Day of the Co-Chairs of the Finance Ministers’ Coalition within the framework of COP29.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Liqun highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on low-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, which have contributed minimally to carbon dioxide accumulation yet suffer significantly from its consequences. He stressed the urgency of resolving this transition swiftly, noting that climate change mitigation, adaptation, and transition are not solely the responsibilities of political leaders but require widespread public support and involvement.

Liqun pointed out that AIIB’s financing efforts aim to address social justice by supporting those marginalized or victimized by climate change consequ
ences. He mentioned the increasing frequency of disasters such as flooding, drought, hurricanes, and tornadoes, attributing these to human activities rather than natural causes. Liqun also underscored the importance of empowering women through AIIB’s financing initiatives, enabling them to actively participate in societal and community development.
