Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan revealed in an interview with Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya TV channel that significant time and effort were required to persuade Armenia to agree on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. The decision to dissolve the group, which was established in 1992 to address the Karabakh conflict, was a primary condition set by Azerbaijan in the early stages of negotiations.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev explained that the Minsk Group's relevance became questionable once Armenia officially recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan and declared the conflict resolved. He argued that maintaining the group's existence implied Armenia's continued territorial claims over Karabakh. This perspective formed the basis of Azerbaijan's stance, leading to both countries agreeing to send a letter to the OSCE for the group's dissolution. The dissolution process began in the presence of former President Trump, marking the end of what Aliyev described as a dysfunctional entity for nearly five years.
