Baku—The COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company has conducted a comprehensive briefing as part of the Pre-COP events held on October 10th and 11th in Baku, detailing the advanced stages of preparation for the upcoming COP29 conference.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the briefing was led by Narmin Jarchalova, Chair of the COP29 Azerbaijan OC and Chief Operating Officer for COP29, who stated that the event’s infrastructure and organizational groundwork are nearing completion. “The construction and installation phase at Baku Stadium is nearing completion, and we are now in the final stages. The venue is set to be handed over to the UNFCCC by this November,” Jarchalova explained. She outlined the extensive efforts to ensure the venue meets sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity standards, with various zones and infrastructures nearly ready for the international delegates and attendees.
Further details were provided by Ismayil Isayev, a member of the COP29 Coordination Board, who focused on the visitor experience and logistical arrangements within Baku. He discussed the hospitality services, media facilities, and the accreditation process, which are all designed to facilitate smooth participation at the conference. Isayev also mentioned the introduction of a COP29 Special Visa and enhanced city navigation tools, including a new interactive map.
Shahla Abbakirova, another board member, introduced the early schedule for the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, highlighting the meticulous planning for the arrival and accommodation of global leaders. “Detailed arrangements have been made for the transport and security of world leaders attending the summit, ensuring efficient movement from the airport to the venue,” Abbakirova said.
Orkhan Mahmudlu, Head of Transport and City Operations at the COP29 Azerbaijan OC, emphasized the importance of a well-coordinated transport scheme to manage the influx of international visitors while minimizing disruption to local residents. He detailed the establishment of multiple transport hubs and regular services across the city to support the event.
The briefing underscores Azerbaijan’s commitment to hosting a successful COP29, with a focus on sustainability and efficient organization to address global climate challenges.
