Azerbaijan Introduces AI Content Labeling Requirement

Baku: A new legislative requirement will soon mandate the labeling of artificial intelligence-generated photo, video, and audio content in Azerbaijan, APA reports. This initiative is encompassed in the proposed Article 13-2.7 of the Law 'On Information, Informatization and Protection of Information,' discussed during a joint videoconference meeting of the Milli Majlis Committees on Legal Policy and State Building and on Human Rights.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law stipulates that any photo, video, or audio materials created using artificial intelligence technologies must be clearly and visibly labeled when displayed publicly. The labeling is intended to inform audiences that the content was produced using AI technologies.

Furthermore, the proposed Article 388-3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses introduces fines ranging from 80 to 150 manats. These penalties will be applied to those who disseminate AI-generated content in the media, on internet information resources, or through information and telecommunications networks without the required labeling, provided they are aware of the content's AI origin.

The term 'labeling' in this context refers to visual, audio, or text-based markings automatically generated by the AI technologies used to create the content, as well as any markings added to the materials post-creation.
