Azerbaijan Prepares Baku for COP29 with Enhanced Signage and Transport

BAKU: Orientation and informational signage are set to be installed at key locations in Baku, including the airport and the Koroghlu metro station, in preparation for COP29, the global climate conference. Ilkin Javadov, head of visitor services at the COP29 Azerbaijan Operational Company, announced these developments as Azerbaijan gears up to host the significant international event.

According to Trend News Agency, special bus routes will be established to facilitate transportation for COP29 attendees, with temporary signs guiding visitors to bus stops and providing directions to nearby hotels. The enhancements are part of efforts to accommodate the influx of approximately 70,000 to 80,000 foreign guests expected in Baku this November.

The decision for Azerbaijan to host COP29 was made during the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 of last year. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the principal decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the United Nations Framewo
rk Convention on Climate Change, an international treaty established at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. With 198 member countries, the convention aims to prevent hazardous human interference with the climate system, and the COP is held annually unless otherwise agreed by the parties involved. The inaugural COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, Germany, with its secretariat based in Bonn.
