Azerbaijan Sets Up Extensive Transport System for COP29 in Baku

BAKU: Azerbaijan has established a comprehensive transportation system to facilitate the movement of guests attending the COP29 climate change conference in Baku, as announced by Orkhan Mahmudlu, Department Director at the COP29, Azerbaijan Operational Company, during a media tour of the Baku Olympic Stadium.

According to Trend News Agency, Mahmudlu detailed the transportation plan saying, “A transport system has been created to shuttle all guests arriving for COP29 from all parts of the city and the Absheron Peninsula. This system includes around 16 transport hubs and over 26 pick-up and drop-off points.” He emphasized that buses would transport delegations to and from the Olympic Stadium from each transport hub, operating between 07:00 and 10:00 (GMT +4). “The frequency of service will vary during peak hours. Various transport hubs will start operating from November 4, and all transport hubs will be fully operational from November 10,” Mahmudlu added.

The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made at t
he COP28 plenary meeting in Dubai on December 11 last year. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, is aimed at preventing hazardous human interference with the climate system. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme decision-making body of the Convention, which includes 198 member countries. Unless decided otherwise, the COP meets annually, with the first meeting having taken place in March 1995 in Germany’s Berlin.
