Baku: The reason for the ban on incandescent bulbs in Azerbaijan starting from next year has been explained, said Deputy Minister of Energy Elnur Soltanov during the public discussion on “Energy efficiency: results and expectations” held today at the Milli Majlis’s (Azerbaijani Parliament) Committee on Natural Resources, Energy, and Ecology.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Deputy Minister mentioned that more than 10 incandescent bulbs break down during the lifespan of a single LED bulb. ‘The consumer does not see this and makes short-term calculations. Therefore, there is a need for administrative intervention. A single LED bulb costs 6 AZN, while an incandescent bulb costs 60 gapik. However, the citizen does not make long-term calculations. That is why we decided to intervene,’ Soltanov explained.
The expected outcome of this intervention is a significant energy saving, with a reduction of 30 million cubic meters of gas consumption in one year. This is equivalent to supplying gas to the region of Nakhchivan for two months, underscoring the broader impact of the shift towards more efficient lighting solutions.
