Azerbaijan to Establish New Tourism and Recreation Zones by 2030

Baku: The creation of three new tourism and recreation zones in Azerbaijan, as well as the development of eight new mountain hiking routes, is planned, APA-Economics reports. This initiative is part of the 'State Program for the Development of Tourism in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026-2030,' which was approved by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev on August 20, 2026.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the document specifies that the new tourism and recreation zones will be developed between 2027 and 2030. These zones will encompass at least three tourism centers, which will be equipped with comprehensive social, cultural, administrative, engineering, and transport infrastructure based on master development plans. The program also aims to attract private investment and implement public-private partnership projects within these areas.

Moreover, the State Program includes provisions for enhancing mountain hiking tourism. An assessment of the existing 40 hiking and trekking routes will be conducted, and eight additional mountain hiking routes will be identified, marked, and digitally mapped. Plans are in place for establishing base camps and light tourism infrastructure along these new routes.

The State Tourism Agency is designated as the primary body responsible for implementing the creation of the new tourism and recreation zones. Collaborating in this effort are the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, and other relevant entities.
