Azerbaijani Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart discuss the regional situation

On August 15, 2023, a telephone conversation was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA.

During the phone conversation, the current cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Russia, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the current situation in the region were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pointed out that Armenia's intensification of military-political provocations against Azerbaijan, contrary to international legal norms and principles, seriously undermines the existing normalization process between the two countries.

It has been noted that Armenia, by continuing manipulations regarding the so-called "tense humanitarian situation" and the existence of a "blockade" in the region, is obstructing the peace process instead of adhering to agreements reached for the resolution of issues related to the use of the Lachin corridor and other alternative routes to ensure the return of Armenian civilians.

Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the necessity of a clear commitment to the obligations set forth in the Trilateral Statement dated November 10, 2020, which was signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia.

During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views took place on other mutually relevant issues as well.
