Azerbaijani Journalists Explore Historical Registan Square in Samarkand

Samarkand: Azerbaijani journalists have visited Registan Square, one of Samarkand's most famous historical and cultural sites, as part of a media tour to Uzbekistan, APA's correspondent dispatched to Uzbekistan reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, media representatives familiarized themselves with the history and architectural features of Registan Square, which is regarded as one of the most significant architectural ensembles in the Islamic world. The journalists were provided with detailed information about the Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilla-Kari madrasas surrounding the square.

It was noted that during the Middle Ages, Registan served as one of the main centers of science, education, and cultural life in Samarkand. The Ulugh Beg Madrasa holds a special place in the formation of the square's architectural ensemble. Astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, and other sciences were taught at the madrasa, which was constructed in the 15th century.

Media representatives were also informed about the importance of the Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kari madrasas in Registan's architectural ensemble. Built in the 17th century, these structures are noted for their intricate tile decorations, patterns, and monumental facades. The journalists explored the colorful tilework, geometric and floral ornaments, domes, and other architectural elements adorning the madrasas' facades.

It was highlighted that Registan, beyond being a historical symbol of Samarkand, played a significant role in the city's evolution into a center of science, education, and culture along the Great Silk Road. Today, the square continues to be a major attraction for tourists visiting Samarkand.

During their visit, Azerbaijani journalists gained insights into the historical importance of Registan Square, the architectural heritage preserved there, and the ongoing efforts to protect historical monuments. The visit of Azerbaijani media representatives to Samarkand is part of a media tour organized to Uzbekistan, aimed at showcasing the country's historical and cultural heritage, tourism opportunities, and recent projects to the Azerbaijani public.
